Enrico Donati DipWSET

Enrico Donati, Italian by origin, began to develop a more than amateur interest in wine during his days at the University in Siena, in Tuscany. His studies in Medieval Archaeology earned him a top class degree but the years spent in Chianti also sowed in him the seed of a passion that eventually drew him away from archaeology into a very different future, in the world of the grape. After University, while working part time in a wine bar in his home town of Ravenna, he successfully studied for the Diploma of the Italian Sommelier Association. He then embarked on his professional career, leaving Italy, first for a sommelier position in a hotel group in Maldives, in the middle of the Indian Ocean, then for a post as sommelier at the world-renowned Gleneagles Hotel in Scotland and then striking further afield to take up new opportunities in the Maldives again. While in Scotland he started studying for advanced qualifications in the world of wine. In the Maldives he has now spent more than seven years developing his skills and experience with the wine and spirits company Grape Expectations, for whom he has acted as consultant sommelier and wine educator, organizing events in resorts throughout the Maldives, hopping from island to island by speedboat or seaplane in a sort of 'sommelier' version of the traditional wine merchant. Outside the Maldives Enrico has undertaken tours and organized or attended events in many parts of the world, visiting hundreds of wineries and sampling thousands of wines in dozens of the world's wine regions, both in Europe and beyond. His growing experience, and dedication to the world of wine, enabled him in 2015 to become one of the few Italian nationals to achieve the highly prized Diploma of the international Wine & Spirit Education Trust, consolidating his career as a sommelier and educator by becoming also one of the few professionals recognized by the Trust as Certified Educators. Now, travelling the world and exploring the never ending world of wine, he continues his career as a consultant sommelier and wine educator. In March 2017, he opened in Italy his very own WSET Approved Program Provider School, one of the very few in Italy, named VENI VIDI VINI.
